Emergency Nurse

Sam finds veterinary nursing a a very rewarding and challenging job, and loves having the opportunity to help creatures that can’t tell us what’s wrong and give them a better quality of life. She also really enjoys making the experience of a visit to an emergency centre as stress-free as possible for both her patients and their families.

She has always known she was never going to end up in an office job – sitting down just wasn’t for her! She started as a Kennel Hand at a local vet clinic in 2012 whilst studying Conservation and Wildlife Biology at Murdoch University. She soon realised her interests were in the world of veterinary nursing and has never looked back! She has a particular passion for Emergency and Critical Care, Wound Management and Rehabilitation, Exotic Pets and Internal Medicine, and regularly attends conferences and courses to ensure she is up to date with the latest knowledge and skills.

At PVE Sam is often treating critically ill patients. She relishes the time spent with her patients – caring for them in their greatest time of need, and not only attending to their medical or surgical treatment, but also making sure they receive the prescribed dose of TLC; Sam has an endless supply of kisses, chin rubs and cuddles available.
The best reward for Sam is seeing one of these critically ill patients give a little tail wag or get excited when it is finally time to go home after what is often a long road to recovery.

She shares her life with Thumper, an 11year old Labrador x Kelpie who accompanies her on all her camping trips, and 5 cats who adopted her (Kiara, Kovu, Jeremy, Hunter and Piper), and who will do just about anything for some warm roast chicken!
