Veterinarians, Vet Nurses and Administration working in Animal Hospitals know how life saving blood donations are. Our pet blood bank depends on the empathy of the public and staff who volunteer their heroic cats and dogs as blood donors.
This Christmas, Perth Vet Emergency is joining forces with WAVES, The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University and Perth Vet Specialists in a friendly competition to promote human blood donations.
1 in 3 Australian humans will receive a transfusion during their life but only 1 in 30 humans donate. We want to improve this by encouraging donations of human blood, plasma and platelets over the Christmas season when human blood stocks traditionally run low. If you're reading this, you can help us spread awareness and let's not forget that we want to win this friendly competition as well!
From today until the 15th January 2018, we are asking every person who reads this article to donate to the Australian Red Cross. Staff, clients, pet owners and their friends are invited to help us spread awareness.
Help Perth Vet Emergency win the "WA Emergency Vets - Donate Blood Challenge" by donating blood or money to the Australian Red Cross. You can provide proof via a photo taken of you at the blood bank and posted in the comments of our Facebook post. Or, you can email your photo to our admin team via firstname.lastname@example.org. Your email details will remain confidential and won't be used for any marketing activities.
Interesting information about Human blood donations
Each 'human' plasma and platelet donation can be performed every 2 weeks and whole blood donations can safely occur every 3 months. You can read more about the types of donations you can give at Australian Red Cross weblink.
Blood donor requirements have changed over the years. For instance, they now accept humans with tattoos.
The donation process takes approximately 1 hour and you can sit back and relax in that time. There are no costs involved and you get a free snack and beverage at the end.
Did you know your 'human' blood can be used to make up to 22 different 'human medical treatments?' More information is available at this Australian Red Cross weblink.
What else can you do to help PVE win this Challenge?
If you can't donate blood, a photo showing the date of an Australian Red Cross donation receipt also counts. You don't need to show the donation amount in the photo as we'll be scored one point per donation, not the value. You can provide proof via a photo posted in the comments on our Facebook post at THIS LINK. Or, you can email photo evidence to our admin team via email@example.com. Your email details will remain confidential and won't be used for any marketing activities.
Another way to help our team in this 2017 Challenge is by sharing this article and/or our Facebook posts. Our goal in taking part in this awesome Perth Challenge is spreading awareness to our colleagues, friends, family and the broader community.
Blood is the gift of life! Together we can prove that animal lovers can save human lives too.
